Some plans!

So, since I've shared my latest photos with you, I thought I'd do a blog update and let my followers know what I have planned for the near future.

So, since my Personal Project is coming to an end, I have to start thinking of what to do for my Exhibition project, which is a body of work which will be exhibited in May 2013. Since I usually like working in the field of Fashion and Portraiture, that's where I've decided I'm going to say.

I have always wanted to do something involving Disney Princesses... I love the Disney films, and I love what they stand for, innocence, purity, kindnes... But I've never known how I'd go about doing this and making it look good... I don't want to use crappy costumes and naff ideas...

So, I've been talking to a local designer, KMD Designs... Telling Katie (The wonderful owner!) My idea, and asking would she be interested in a collaboration. Since she makes prom dresses, suits and other bespoke items, this could be a fab way of showing off what she can do, through my photos. They can also be used as advertising, interesting posters etc!

We've also decided we're not going to do things as happy and as colourful as Disney. I want to bring it back to the original roots, like in the Brothers Grimm stories... Which you'll find some of the "Disney" princesses originated...The original roots are dark and depressing, not at all the way Disney have portrayed them.

So, we're wondering what princesses we should do. I really like the idea of Snow White. She was the original Princess. Where as she isn't "Brothers Grimm" I really like the idea of twisting the story and making it dark.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinion on this...

Fashion is Rubbish!

So here are some of the shots following yesterday's 2nd Fashion is Rubbish photoshoot. This time, I used 4 different models, and I think it worked really well. Lesley wasn't modelling this time, so she could concentrate full time on making the amazing costumes you see the girls wearing, all out of bin bags and egg trays!
Models: Beccy Kelly, Laura Hughes, Simone Marr and Hollie Lynch.

I used the same MUA as last time, and introduced 2 new girls who wanted to learn, they brought some awesome tips and ideas to the table and both worked really hard to get the look I wanted.

I can't decide which shoot I think worked the best. I feel confident that I've explored different routes of rubbish and their "Wearability" (Yeah, a new Sarah word there! ;) ) and I love the colours that we've managed to experiment with.

That's all for now, I'll update with more later! <3

Bokeh!

Soooo, I decided since all the gorgeous christmas lights are up in town, I'd give changing Bokeh a go. I haven't done it properly and I wanted to see what it'd look like if it was done properly.
I'm actually really happy with the way these turned out, but I really want to get a picture of someone or something in focus and the lights behind out of focus, in the shape of a heart or star.

I think if I try Bokeh again, this is what I'll try doing.

I'd love to hear opinions, leave me a comment and some critique!

"Fashion is Rubbish"

These are the images that I've taken from the shoot today. It's for my Personal Project which I've entitled "Fashion is Rubbish" the concept stems from the rubbish quality clothing we are wearing in today's time. I decided I wanted models wearing clothing made from materials we'd consider "Rubbish!".

I had a wonderful team backing me, I can't thank them enough for making the shoot go seamlessly and made it extremely fun. Trying out new ideas, helping the models pose, and the most fun part, throwing scraps of comic book at poor Lesley!
I am hoping that these will look beautiful in my book which I am planning on releasing for this, keep an eye out!

Thanks guys!

Changing Bokeh

Here are some examples of my attempting to change the "Bokeh".
I can't really explain bokeh properly myself, so I'll find someone else to do it for me..
"In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur in out-of-focus areas of an image"
Thanks to Wikipeda for the information!

Anyway, this is my attempt of Bokeh, I bought some pink ball fairy lights and decided I was going to give it a bash, since everyone else could. I know my pictures aren't that great at the moment, they're simple, and only showing the out of focus lights. But I think this works. I decided that I was going to try this before putting it in a shot with something else. I have some ideas how to make this work in other aspects of shoots, but I wanted to learn how to do this before anything else.

I'd love to hear any comments or opinions if you have them, if you do have some negative comments, please do say them constructively, don't just say "thats bad" if you do think so, please tell me how I could improve.

Thanks for looking!

Cupcakes made Easy!

This is a shoot i've done with a local new business. Cupcakes made Easy! (Their Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cupcakes-Made-Easy/367735433277204 Be sure to check them out)

Anyway, I approached them, asking them did they need professional quality images, as the images they were using weren't doing their fab products justice! Low and behold, they hired me and the images that follow are the product of todays shoot!

This shoot was so much fun, although everything looked so gorgeous! I had to stop myself eating the cakes, I don't think Gill would have been best pleased about that! Yummy cakes though, I'm sure they taste just as good as they look!

Anyway, this isn't all the photos I've taken, so I'm going to leave you with just these, so you can wonder what the rest of them look like!

Happy Halloween guys!

Photographs from me

Hi there guys!

First post in a long while. I have been so busy throwing myself into my final year at Uni... Its so hectic. So much work to be done, in such a small amount of time!

At the end of the summer holidays, I decided that I was going to make a book of all the images I had created over the summer, and some of my more popular ones of all time.
I have put them in a book called "Photographs from me".

This is available from Blurb or through me, if someone would be so interested as to buy it.

http://www.blurb.co.uk/bookstore/detail/3605044

I'll do another update soon, and don't forget to check out my new blog for my Personal project at Uni!

Jay & Pete

I am so pleased to tell you all, I had the pleasure of shooting Jay & Petes wedding, on the 7th Aug.

It was such a wonderful day, one of the most loving, down to earth wedding days I have ever had the pleasure of attending.
They were so relaxed, a sign of a couple in love and so sure of their destiny..

Please allow me to share some of their special moments I captured, with you.

More to be added at a later date.

Wow - Its been a while!

Wow guys, it really has been a while since I posted, I guess I really forgot about this blog!

I guess I haven't really got much to post about, I haven't actually done much with my summer. I'm just enjoying myself. We've not got much of a summer at the moment, mostly rain and dreary days, but theres been the odd nice hot day every now and again... :D

I'm going to post again soon!

Pregnancy

This is a portrait of the gorgeous Sarah. She wanted some photographs taken, to present to her boyfriend, to remind them of the precious moments of pregnancy.
We all know times goes way too fast, and sometimes you don't step back and look at the beautiful changes that are pregnancy.

You can see some other photos that aren't so SFW, on my DeviantART, Linked below!

Thanks!

Who is behind the camera?

I worked with a new MUA today. After the shoot was done, we decided to have a bit of fun with the studio set up, make up and my camera! Kirsty wanted some new shots of make up for her portfolio, and I was a willing model!
This isn't the most flattering picture of me, but it shows you all who is taking the pictures that you see on your screen! Be nice. I wasn't too comfortable with this, I'm not entirely sure what to do when infront of the camera, I've got to say, I'm much happier behind it!

Speak soon!

Competitions!

The past couple of months, I've been working on my Freelance assignment for University. Which entails us to enter our work into Competitions!
I've become really interested in entering competitions, as I feel it holds a certain excitement... The submission, the wait... Could it be you who is the winner?

The following 3 Photographs were submitted to the "Garden & Leisure" Photography competition. The entrants are allowed to enter 3 photographs that will be judged and placed in a calendar if they win.

Once I read the terms and conditions, I thought these were the 3 photographs that would fit in perfectly with the theme.

The closing date is 1st July, so I've not heard anything back yet!

This Photograph has been entered into 2 competitions.
Firstly the "Lavenderworld" Landscape Photography competition,  which as the name states, is a competition dedicated to Landscape photographs. The closing date for this assignment is 30th September, so I have quite a while until this one closes, Boo!

This shot has also been entered into the "Take the Stage with David Beckham" Which I would actually love to win!
Apparently the photograph didn't have to be a portrait, it only had to be a photograph that you had "Poured your heart and soul into"
This competition is a vote one aswell as a judged one, so as soon as I'm sent the link to my entry, I will post it here, incase anyone would like to vote on it!
The closing date for this competition is 20th May, so I'll again post any information once thats closed.
http://www.photographycompetitions.net/2012/04/take-the-stage-with-david-beckham/

Hoping to enter more competitions during the summer, some of them National and some of them International. I'm hoping to have some success, as I can put any wins or nominations on my professional photography CV, which would look rather nice!

Second year is almost over... Time is flying too fast!

Final Image!

I'm so proud of myself!

I went to Formby Beach on Saturday, there was the strangest sky ever goin' on! I managed to get some gorgeous pictures of the dunes and the beach in general.

The photographers that i've been looking at for my "Freelance Project" have been Stephen Shore and Ansel Adams. Both very different, but very distinctive in their works.
I wanted to study both of their works, but Adam's has always stood out to me as the Granddaddy of Landscape Photography, his work is so inspiring and timeless, I wanted to create something just like it. The weather on the Beach on Saturday was just amazing, so moody, with hints of sunshine and fluffy clouds.

The Dunes, Sarah Gibson, 2012.

Mountains, Ansel Adams

Adams' image of "Mountains"
This has a bit more contrast than mine, but the concept is still the same.

I'm actually really happy with the way my image turned out in regards to Adams'. It isn't a direct copy, it's different enough to be on it's own.

Don't forget guys, you can always check me out on Facebook, or on Flickr or DeviantArt!

I'd love to hear comments from anyone!

The Zoo

So! Whilst my sister was visiting, we decided to go on a day out to the Zoo. Our closest Zoo is Chester. It was such a fun day out, and I thought it'd be the perfect chance to get some wonderful shots of Animals.

Some of my favorite shots are of the butterflies! I do love how some of these insects look! Some of the Butterflies are amazing to look at, I mean, their camoflauge are amazing!
The above photo, was a butterfly that landed on my sister's friends hand. I managed to get close enough to get this amazing macro shot. I really love this!

The image to the Right was a Butterfly that looked to me like an Owl. So amazing... When it opened its wings, it was the most amazing shade of Blue! Blue green, if you know what I mean... so beautiful
Elephants have an amazing memory. It is thought that they never forget.
I love this shot, the contrast in it, the creases in the face. I just think there is so much emotion in this photo. I'd love to hear your opinion!

Thanks for reading, as per usual.
I hope you enjoyed the photographs. To see more, don't forget, you can go to my facebook page and "Like" me. I also have a Deviant Art and a Flickr. Links are below!

See you soon guys!

So, I thought I'd do an Update!

Hi there guys!

Well, its 0:33am on Sunday 1st April, I thought I'd do an update. Theres no jokes here, no April Fools to get your hopes up and make you laugh - Oh I guessed it!

Just an honest update for those who might actually read this thing. :]

Well, We're on Easter break now, I should be doing so much work, but I'm struggling to motivate myself so much! I need to get my butt moving otherwise I'm not going to get onto 3rd year of this course! I'm not amused with myself, I think I need one of them Motivation trainers to kick my rump into gear! I'm heading to Liverpool during this break to talk to the people at the Black-E. Taking my Editorial project further and trying to branch out. This is focussing on Chinese New year, and the Chinese culture surrounding their Zodiacs. This will eventually be a book. Instead of submitting images for this assignment, Its going to be a book, including images from both Liverpool and Manchester new year celebrations. I'm really excited about this. I can't wait to see what this will look like!

My assignment for this competition is going well (Freelance Project), we have a fun weekend planned in Yorkshire coming up. This is following our successful Wales trip we took a few weeks ago. I uploaded some pics from that in the last blog post I did. Feel free to comment or critique them! (I love it when you do!)
I can't wait to get back and get some more landscape images done. Landscapes prove a challenge, allbeit a welcome one, I do enjoy doing them, even if I don't feel that professional or good!!
This should be fun for everyone who is going, fun walks, exploring new places. Who doesn't love doing something like that? Something different!

A nice moss covered tree in Snowden, Wales.

My sister is currently up visiting from Cambridge, thats really nice for me, I only get to see her maybe two or three times a year. I might take her out and get some nice photos of her, she is most certainly model material. However, quite Raw, she needs some refining and could be soemthing special! - Sorry if you're reading this Erica!
I'm hoping the weather will pick up for this, I've been meaning to get some nice fresh faced summer shots. I'm thinking about bringing out a range of Summer/Spring business cards? Including flowers, stunning models in beautiful backgrounds. I do need a new set, and don't want to be ordering the same ones time and time again!

Wales!

We recently took a trip to Wales. It was for my landscape assignment at University. I have decided to enter the Lavenderworld Photo competition.
http://www.photographycompetitions.net/2012/02/the-lavenderworld-landscape-photography-competition/
For those who might be interested in this competition.

I decided that I was going to do Landscapes for this Assignment, as they're something I don't do alot, and I don't see myself as an expert in. So I thought it'd be nice to have something different to do!

Just some of the images I took whilst there.

Please enjoy, and remember, I'm always up for comments and critiques!

The following images are from the abandoned Ravenhead Glass factory.

The following images are from the abandoned Sand Cleaning Factory that was owned by Pilkingtons. It was closed down when more sand was needed and the factory couldn't cope with the amount.
